FAQs
How is direct primary care different from what I’m used to?
Logistically, direct primary care only really differs from the care you’re used to receiving from your PCP in one important way: we bypass insurance entirely. As your PCP, I won’t bill insurance for any of the services I provide. Referrals, procedures, prescriptions, etc. will all continue to flow through your insurance the way they always have, but your Rebel + Thrive care will be paid via subscription.
However, you’ll likely notice a big difference in the level of care you receive and how much access you have to your provider with DPC. Working within the insurance-driven model of primary care, doctors often have huge case loads and struggle to provide meaningful care to their patients. With DPC, you’ll be able to see your doctor more often, for longer, and with—hopefully—a lot less frustration!
Who is direct primary care for?
At Rebel + Thrive, we’ve built care with a certain kind of person in mind, but it isn’t dependent on health status, history, or diagnosis. Instead, we’ve built our services for people who are tired of dealing with the broken healthcare system and want healthcare, not just sick-care.
Having a chronic condition, multiple specialists, or any other factor won’t disqualify you for Rebel + Thrive. However, the service we’ve built isn’t for everyone. During our meet and greets, we’re committed to being transparent, and we’ll let you know if we don’t think it’ll be a good fit.
Are there any hidden fees?
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: With your membership fee (paid either monthly, quarterly, or annually), you’ll receive access to appointments, prescriptions, communications with Dr. Leila, and more. While there are some differences between our membership levels, you’ll have access to comprehensive primary care, no matter what level of membership you have. The only additional costs are for home visits (if not included in your membership level) and a la carte services.
What makes direct primary care a better option?
To be honest, DPC might not be worth the cost for some people. If you don’t have much interest in working with a doctor beyond what your typical PCP provides, the membership cost might not be worth it. However, if you’re interested in diving more deeply into your health and desire to have a true partnership with your provider, then direct primary care is probably the answer you’ve been looking for.
Do you offer family discounts?
Yes! For Essential memberships, you get 10% off your total membership fee per family member. For Amplified and Extensive memberships, it’s 15% off your total membership fee per family member.
Our definition of family is as broad and inclusive as we can make it: if you share a permanent address, you’re family. This includes romantic partners (married or unmarried), platonic roommates, and adult children (under the age of 25) if they reside at school part of the year.
Is there different pricing for pediatric memberships?
Yes, memberships for pediatric patients is reduced.
For Essential pediatric memberships: $600 (annual), $180 (quarterly), $75 (monthly)
For Amplified pediatric memberships: $1,500 (annual), $450 (quarterly), $187 (monthly)
For Extensive pediatric memberships: $3,000 (annual), $900 (quarterly), $375 (monthly)
What if I choose the wrong membership level?
We will work together to identify the best tier to fit your needs, but we understand that things change. In the event that you need to upgrade or downgrade your membership tier, we just ask that you give us ample notice before the next billing cycle (at least 5 business days).
What if I need to cancel my membership?
If you are paying monthly, you simply need to give ample notice prior to the next billing cycle (at least 5 business days) and you will no longer be billed. If you have chosen quarterly or annual billing, you can choose to finish out your membership and not renew, or, if you need to cancel sooner, we can refund a prorated amount based on how many months you have used (billed at the tier’s monthly rate).
Is there a membership initiation or cancellation fee?
There is no fee to start your membership or to cancel. However, if you have cancelled and want to restart, you will be subject to a one-time administrative fee to onboard a second time.
What if I need something beyond my tier as a one-off?
No matter what tier you select, we are committed to providing the care you need. If you need something that isn’t included in your tier in a singular instance, we’ll likely just accommodate it. If that kind of need is recurring, we may need to discuss upgrading your membership to ensure you have access to the care you need going forward.
Home visits are the notable exception to our ability to accommodate needs outside of your membership tier. If you have an Essential membership and require a home visit (or require more beyond the amount allotted for Amplified and Extensive memberships), an additional charge of $200–300 (depending on complexity) will be applied.
How in-depth is medical discussion for the Essential tier?
Communication is focused on your diagnosis, treatment plan, and essential questions regarding care management. Requests for extensive explanation of medical theory, pathophysiology beyond direct therapeutic relevance, or complex research review fall outside the scope of the Essential membership’s included support. Such detailed review can be secured through an upgrade to an Amplified or Extensive membership for dedicated consultative time.
